Ch. 1 Father's Secret pgs. 1-7 3/18/11 This boy named Alex wakes up and sees his father cleaning something. It turns out to be a gun, a pistol. His mother had gone to a ghetto to see some friends and she hadn't returned home. They share a home with other people and Alex's father doesn't want them to know about the gun. He plans to use this gun if he needs to. Alex knows everything about his fathers gun. They have been in war now for 3 years. Everyone is worried about camps and nobody knows if they kill people there or not. Alex is being taught to defend himself, to shot, to tie ropes, and much more.

Ch. 2 Snow, and are people like trees? pgs. 8-14 3/19/11 Alex's mother seems like a very smart women. His Father seems to think he knows everything. Father and mother dont seem to get along very well, always fighting... Alex has a pet mouse. He named the mouse Snow, because he is white. He thinks Snow is very smart because all of his other mice died and he comes when Alex calls him. Alex's mother is still missing. Alex runs and hinds in a spaces only big enough for him. The Nazis chase after him, but they dont know where he is. He has his fathers gun and will use it if he has to. Vocab 1. Alex is still in hiding. He remembers going to the old house he is hiding in as a little kid. He remembers playing hide and seek. He would play there even though it was forbidden. Alex wishes he could fly. He thinks that if he could he would go to the 3rd floor because there are no stairs. There is a sink there that drips and he thinks that the water will work. The birds go up there all the time to drink from it. Alex use to go there all the time with other kids. Alex wonders if he is luck. Is he? He always seems to escape everything, and never get hurt. He wonders about snow his mouse. He hopes he will be ok there by himself.

Alex leaves the hideout. He sneaks threw the dark, lonely street to his old house. He gets home and find out that all the food is gone. He goes to a secret place and all the food is gone there too. He goes to his family's shelter and its lock from the inside. His naubors are in there hiding and wont let him take any food even though his dad was the one to take it all. He goes back to his hideout.

He is worried because his father is still missing and he doesnt know how long he will last without any food.

Alex has been searching everywhere for food. He goes from building to building though holes in the walls. He crossed the street and he was lucky nobody saw him. He goes into this building and finds a secret stash of food.. he takes it all but then a different family in hiding take his food and leave him with only anough food for 4 days. He is running low and needs to find some more.

A ghetto search. The Nazis are seaching the ghetto for hiding Jews. They are searching every building. They are so close to fiing Alex but then they leave. He relizes that his hideout isnt good enough and that he needs to find a different one in order to not be found. He decides that he has to get up to the 4th floor of the building. It would be the perfect spot. There isnt any stairs to get up there and you wouldnt be able to see or get up there. There is only one problem.. how does he get up there? Alex decides that he is going to the rope factory to get some rope so that he can make a ladder out of rope. On the way he finds a little girl being attacked by a man. He recongizes the girl as the daughter of the man who took all of his food in chapter 7. He scares off the man by pretending to shot the gun and they talk. She give him a hair pin.

He goes down and the people under there that were hiding are gone and the food is gone too.

Alexs startes to make the rope ladder. He finishs it and waits until it gets dark enough to get up there. He makes it up and decides it is the perfect place. Nobody can see him up there and nobody would even think he could get up there. Nobody could with out a ladder. He has water now and is almost completely safe and hidin from the evil Nazis.

The Nazis come back to search the building. Alex was so afraid that they had come for him, but they didnt even know about him. They are widening the entrance to the cellar where Alex was before. He was afraid thinking that he still might have been down there. They found more people down there in a secret bunker alex didnt even know about. Everything was taken except the food. Alex went down there and took most of it before the Nazis came back to take it. The Nazis came back the next morning at distroied the entrace to get in, so alex couldnt gey back.

Alex killed him and feels sick. they hide the man and alex takes the 2 back to his hideout.. One of the men is cut and alex has to get a doctor.

Now 4 people know about the hideout.

Alex and the doctor sneak back to the polish wall and the doctor leaves. He kisses Alex and promises to be back in 2 days to check on the man. The doctor said that the man's wound could get infected.. and that would be bad. The doctor was taken by the nazis the next day...
